Dr. Gumina has served the women and men of the central valley over 24 years. Born and raised in Fresno, California, she received her undergraduate degree at University of California, Davis and went on to study medicine at Loyola Stritch School of Medicine. She then returned to the central valley to complete her general surgery residency at the University of California San Francisco, Fresno program. She joined Valley Surgical Specialists in 1996. Dr. Gumina dedicated her surgical expertise to the treatment of breast disease in 2005. She is recognized by the American Society of Breast Surgeons as a breast specialist and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
With the compassion and commitment to treat breast cancer, she was a founding member in the development of the very successful Radin multidisciplinary breast cancer clinic at Clovis Community Medical Center.
Dr. Gumina specializes in nipple sparing mastectomies and breast conserving therapy. She is certified in oncoplastic surgery in which plastic surgical techniques are used to give the best cosmetic outcome when performing lumpectomies. She works in conjunction with talented plastic surgeons to provide the latest reconstruction techniques for her mastectomy patients.
Dr. Gumina also maintains and interest in male gynecomastia and performs male mastectomy when indicated. She has a large following of high-risk patients and patients with benign breast disease.
Dr. Gumina is honored to be affiliated with the UCSF teaching program and has taught residents, breast surgery for over a decade.
Dr. Gumina’s commitment to cancer care, includes chairing the cancer committees at both Saint Agnes and Community Medical Centers, regular involvement in tumor boards, and participation in many local health screenings. She has co-hosted local Health Symposiums and has lectured to health care professionals across the valley to improve women’s health locally.
